Teskey’s Top Hand Award
This is a scholarship presented to a sen-
ior recognized for their All Around per-
formance both inside and outside of the
rodeo arena.
~State Awards~
L & P Enterprises, LLC - Effort and
Reward Scholarship
L & P Enterprises, LLC is an Oil Drilling and
Operations Company. Kevin Wiseman, a
former KHSRA State Champion, started the
company in 2009. The Wiseman family has
a running total of 19 years participating in
Kansas H.S. Rodeo; attaining National,
State, and Individual Rodeo Titles. Award-
ing this scholarship is an opportunity for the
family to give back to KHSRA for the hard
work ethics they were taught through High
School Rodeo. This $500 scholarship is giv-
en to a Sr. KHSRA Member that has put ef-
fort into raising money for the KHSRA Sr.
Scholarship Fund. This will be an accumu-
lating H.S. career opportunity. All classes
may start at collecting funds. This scholar-
ship promotes the kids in KHSRA working to
help other kids with their college education
expenses. For example a Freshman this
year can bring in a scholarship for the senior
class this year; but it will count for them to
receive the L & P Enterprises LLC – Effort
and Reward Scholarship their Senior
year. This scholarship will be a cash schol-
arship that is provided with any college
school related expenses receipts. The
scholarship award funds can come from any
source. College Scholarships, Companies,
Individuals, or Memorials.
Skyler Hively Memorial Scholarship
The Skyler Hively Memorial Scholarship is
established to help fund the education of
KHSRA members and equine enthusi-
asts. Skyler, a four year member of
KHSRA, loved horses and team roping! He
was an avid horseman, and roped as both a
header and heeler. His dream was to rope
professionally. Skyler attended Coffeyville
Community College on a full rodeo scholar-
ship as a team roper. He was successful as
a heeler in college, the USRTC and the IRA
rodeo association. He competed at the
USTRC World Finals twice and was named

Rookie of the Year Team Roper in the IRA
in 2010. Sadly, Skyler lost his life in an au-
tomobile accident on July 24, 2011, just
three miles from his home. He is loved and
missed, but remembered as the man he
was, a true Cowboy.
Kim Jennings Memorial Scholarship
The Kim Jennings Memorial Scholarship will
be funded by money earned from an annual
silent auction at the Lakin High School Ro-
deo. Kim passed away on January 20, 2012
at the age of 56 after a battle with can-
cer. She worked as a coach and secretary
for the Lakin School District and was also
involved in mission support. Kim was mar-
ried to Deke Jennings and together they op-
erated the J-J Rodeo Company. The
KHSRA is proud to establish this scholar-
ship in memory of Kim and in honor of the
Jennings family, longtime supporters of high
school rodeo.
Jake and Chance Ramsey Memorial
Saddles
In May of 2009 Jake Ramsey passed
away from health challenges; only two
weeks after Chance Ramsey tragically
lost his life in a pasture accident. Like
his son Chance; Jake loved pasture work
as well as competing in the rodeo are-
na. Jake went to open rodeos for several
years. He was a rancher at heart. He
enjoyed working as a pickup man for Ste-
ve Kraft and Floyd Rumford. Jake at-
tended every high school rodeo of
Chances that his health allowed. Jake
thoroughly enjoyed watching the youth
of high school rodeo compete. After the
untimley passing of this father and son;
close friends established a annual barrel
race and team roping in their memory. In
honor of Jake and Chance Ramsey 2
saddles are awarded at the Kansas High
School Rodeo Finals each year. One to
a HS Senior boy and one to a girl.
