National Awards

Teskey's Top Hand Award

A scholarship presented to a senior recognized for their All Around performance both inside and outside of the rodeo arena.

State Awards

5A Wellness Rodeo Scholarship

Farm Credit of Kansas, sponsor of the KHSRA Academic Rodeo Team, awards every senior member of the Academic Team a college scholarship. Farm Credit of Kansas serves the agriculture industry across the state and is proud to support academic excellence among high school rodeo athletes.

Farm Credit Financial Services Academic Excellence Scholarships

Awarded to a KHSRA Senior judged at finals. A single $250 scholarship the first year, growing annually as more families consume the products. Focuses on the importance of health and nutrition for young athletes — students write an essay on the importance of nutrition in the rodeo world.

KHSRA Scholarships

The Scholarship Committee earns money by selling half-and-half tickets at each rodeo. Half the funds go to a lucky ticket purchaser while the other half is added to the scholarship fund. Other fundraising activities include clothing sales, silent auctions, bake sales, and raffles.

K-State Rodeo Scholarship

K-State will be awarding a scholarship to a recipient of their choosing. More details to come.

Memorial Scholarships

Kansas State University Scholarship

Honoring Deke Jennings, tragically killed in a water truck wreck in December 2016. Deke was the owner of J & J Rodeo Company and devoted to youth rodeo across Kansas and the region. Kim passed away in 2012 after a fight with cancer. Both are deeply missed by the entire rodeo family.

Denton Shepherd Memorial Scholarship

Honoring Denton Shepherd, 19, who lost his life in a tragic automobile accident on May 18th, 2009. Denton competed in cutting, calf roping, and team roping — representing Kansas at Nationals three times. He made many close friends through high school rodeo and was deeply loved by his rodeo family.

Edgar "Puncher" Cooper Memorial Scholarship

Honoring Edgar “Puncher” Cooper (1931–2006), the first contestant in the National High School Rodeo competition, from Saffordville, KS. A lifelong horseman, saddle bronc rider, and cattle breeder for 25 years, his family and grandchildren who were KHSRA members are designating this memorial to help a Kansas youth compete nationally.
